Basketball Recap: Second Baptist Picks Up 15th Consecutive Victory

Second Baptist had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Friday. They claimed a resounding 88-57 victory over the Fort Bend Christian Academy Eagles. Given Second Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Fort Bend Christian Academy is ranked 465th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Second Baptist was led to victory by Reese Alston and Will Goolsby. Alston almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine assists, while Goolsby went 8 of 11 on his way to 21 points. Alston's evening made it 22 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shia Francis, who went 7 for 14 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Second Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Second Baptist is on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 27-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points per game. As for Fort Bend Christian Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Second Baptist has already played their next game (against Logos Prep Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fort Bend Christian Academy will head out to square off against Bay Area Christian on Tuesday.
