Football Recap: Clinton Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Clinton hadn't done well against Oak Grove recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cardinals secured a 20-14 W over the Panthers. Those 20 points were actually the fewest the Cardinals have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

The critical scores for Clinton came from Connor Bramell, Payton Goth, and Quintin Faught.

Clinton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Clinton's defense made their presence known, laying out Luke Schartz five times. Oak Grove's QB won't forget Mason Shumate anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Shumate also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six.

When it comes to explaining why Oak Grove lost, don't look at Brayden Vanness. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards on only five carries.

Clinton's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.5 points over those games. As for Oak Grove, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will head out to take on Pleasant Hope at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oak Grove, they will take on Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Yellowjackets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.4 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
