Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Ga'Quincy McKinstry of
Pinson Valley (Pinson) is the 2020 MaxPreps Alabama High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 180-pound senior standout was a force on both sides of the ball for the Indians, who went 12-2 en route to the Class 6A state championship.
As a wide receiver, McKinstry caught 45 passes for 706 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 21 tackles and two interceptions.
McKinstry is regarded as a top 25 prospect in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports. He is already enrolled at Alabama, where he is expected to play cornerback for the national champions.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
