Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Takes a Loss

If St. Augustine Catholic was riding high fresh off their 72-28 takedown of Patagonia on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolves took a hard 59-43 fall against the Joseph City Wildcats on Saturday. The game marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, St. Augustine Catholic still got an impressive performance from Carlos Acuna, who posted 22 points and six rebounds. The contest was Acuna's sixth in a row with at least 18 points. Jovanni Fernandez was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.

Joseph City had a senior duo take command as Eli James dropped a double-double with 26 points and 14 boards and Cort Miller dropped a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points James has scored all season. William Grant also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

St. Augustine Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Joseph City, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

St. Augustine Catholic will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Santa Rita at 7:00 p.m. on December 2. As for Joseph City, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-48 victory against St. David on the 22nd.
