After a string of four wins, the Florence Huskies's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aspen. While losing is never fun, Florence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while Aspen is ranked 34th).
When it comes to explaining why Florence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gage Goodall. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Goodall scored a full 30.8% of Florence's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Garrett Royer was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.
Florence's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5. As for Aspen, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
Florence will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Salida at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Aspen will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Battle Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
