Basketball Recap: Coronado Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jalyn Jarboe and Brayden Taylor

Coronado lost against Canon City back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Coronado Cougars took a 69-50 bruising from the Canon City Tigers. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brayden Taylor and Jalyn Jarboe certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Taylor posted nine points and three steals, while Jarboe went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points and five boards. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davion Banks, who scored eight points.

Leading Canon City to victory were Kayden Benson and Eric Chavez. Benson went 11 for 18 on his way to 27 points and four steals, while Chavez went 6 of 7 en route to 15 points and three steals. Those 27 points gave Benson a new career-high. Noah Mullin-Betts was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Coronado's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Canon City, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12.

Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-46 defeat against Air Academy on the 1st. As for Canon City, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Canon City Tigers take on the Harrison Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
