The Fossil Ridge SaberCats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Loveland at home to the tune of 65-21. Given Fossil Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Loveland is ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fossil Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carmen Arkin led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine rebounds. Lily Wale was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Despite the defeat, Loveland saw an underclassman step up: Courtlyn Yaussi scored three points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Rivera, who scored five points.
Fossil Ridge pushed their record up to 7-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Loveland, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fossil Ridge and Prairie View will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Prairie View is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Loveland will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Horizon is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
