South Central is 8-2 against Mapleton since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The South Central Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mapleton Mounties at 7:30 p.m. South Central has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28.
On Thursday, South Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to Monroeville. South Central has not had much luck with Monroeville recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their defeat, South Central saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gunner Ray, who scored 19 points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Weston June was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Mapleton blew past St. Peter's, posting a 71-16 win at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Mapleton has managed all season.
South Central's loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Mapleton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
South Central was taken down by Mapleton 82-52 when the teams last played back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point South Central was down 48-28.
