Baseball Game Preview: C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

C.B. Aycock has gone a perfect 7-0 against Smithfield-Selma recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Golden Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. C.B. Aycock will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

C.B. Aycock is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on East Duplin with a sharp 14-4 win on Tuesday. The Golden Falcons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28th (when they won 10-0).

Ashton Fricks was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caden Cox was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braxton Toler, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

C.B. Aycock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Knightdale hit Smithfield-Selma with a eight-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 14-3 to the Knights. The Spartans just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Smithfield-Selma saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was EJ Stridiron, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Smithfield-Selma's defeat dropped their record down to 1-21. As for C.B. Aycock, they moved to 9-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

C.B. Aycock took their win against Smithfield-Selma when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
