The St. David Tigers will face off against the Ash Fork/Seligman Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. David knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Ash Fork/Seligman likes a good challenge.
Ash Fork/Seligman's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: St. David hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Tigers never let Salome get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Tigers have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Emelynn Jacquez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Camber Jacquez, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
St. David hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Ash Fork/Seligman had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over El Capitan on Friday.
Aura Mendez made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Mendez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ash Fork/Seligman got a big performance out of Gracie Staples, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Jordyn Vazquez was another key player, getting on base in three of her seven plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
St. David has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Ash Fork/Seligman, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Ash Fork/Seligman's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. St. David has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ash Fork/Seligman, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will St. David keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
St. David took their win against Ash Fork/Seligman in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
