Spoto hasn't had much luck against Riverview recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spoto Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Riverview Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Spoto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Spoto made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Blake, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Spoto's way against Blake on Thursday as Spoto made off with a 19-3 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.
Jasmine McCray was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she stole this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lena Murphy, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Keira Mitchell, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Spoto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Riverview's offense. They fell just short of Strawberry Crest by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. The Sharks haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Riverview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Freeland, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
The win got Spoto back to even at 2-2. As for Riverview, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
Riverview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Spoto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. It's a different story for Riverview, though, as they've only averaged .282. Will they be able to contain Spoto's hitters?
Spoto suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Riverview when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can Spoto avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
