Port Gibson has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The South Pike Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Port Gibson will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought game, but Port Gibson had to settle for a 28-26 loss against Franklin County.
Meanwhile, South Pike unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 42-20 defeat at the hands of Wesson. South Pike was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
Although South Pike took the loss, they still got scores from Lemari Cowart, Martavius Jones, and Devin Johnson.
Port Gibson has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for South Pike, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Port Gibson strolled past South Pike when the teams last played back in September of 2016 by a score of 30-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for Port Gibson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
