It was a good run, but the Hillsborough Terriers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wharton. While losing is never fun, Hillsborough can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Wharton is ranked 81st).
Hillsborough's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Deana Epps, who scored nine points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Jojo Cruz-Smartt, who scored 13 points.
Wharton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tamara Bryant out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Sydney Hurst was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Hillsborough's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Wharton, they pushed their record up to 19-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Hillsborough won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Leto at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Leto has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Wharton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bloomingdale at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bloomingdale's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
