The Argonaut Mustangs will challenge the Linden Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Argonaut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Argonaut is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Ben Holt College Prep Academy get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ben Holt College Prep Academy's batters probably weren't too happy with Kendall Baker, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up two walks).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on AJ Schultz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Linden got the win against Bear River on Friday by a conclusive 14-8. Considering the Lions have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Katie Schallberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Olivia Fears was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Millee Holguin, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
Argonaut's win bumped their record up to 21-8. As for Linden, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Argonaut hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Linden struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Argonaut came out on top in a nail-biter against Linden in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
