On Friday, The Bingham Miners faced the Mountain Ridge Sentinels in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bingham came out on top against Mountain Ridge by a score of 37-27. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Bingham's three-point performance the contest before.
Bingham's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Swensen led the charge by rushing for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Swensen was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Triston Brimhall, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Mountain Ridge to a paltry 26 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bingham's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Will Van Cott and his three sacks.
Mountain Ridge's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Wyatt Bingham, who threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Kai Meza was another key contributor, picking up 164 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bingham is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Mountain Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
The Miners will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Syracuse at 6:00 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (they are ranked 16th, while Bingham is ranked tenth). The Sentinels will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Lone Peak at 6:00 p.m. on October 27th. They are hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
