Rio Grande is 1-9 against Valley since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The pair will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
Last Friday, Rio Grande came up short against St. Michael's and fell 36-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Rio Grande has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Valley had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Cibola 65-36 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-14.
It was another big night for Giana Roybal, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten steals. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Tayton Gomez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Rio Grande has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Valley, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Rio Grande was dealt a bruising 56-29 loss at the hands of Valley in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Rio Grande avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
