Normal Community is 9-1 against Peoria Notre Dame since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Ironmen will venture away from home to square off against the Irish at 4:30 p.m. Normal Community is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Normal Community's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Danville with a sharp 18-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Ironmen, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Tyler Swanson looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Andrew Naour was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Holden Baldwin, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Peoria Notre Dame fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bloomington on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Purple Raiders by a score of 4-3.
Peoria Notre Dame also got a good showing from Anthony LeFante, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Peoria Notre Dame saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lawson Alwan, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Normal Community pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Peoria Notre Dame, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Normal Community hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Peoria Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Normal Community's way against Peoria Notre Dame in their previous matchup last Monday, as Normal Community made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ironmen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
