MENDHAM, N.J. -
West Morris Mendham (Mendham, N.J.) received a huge boost from its defense against
Chatham (N.J.), as the unit scored six in defeating
Chatham (N.J.), 12-7.
The two teams were tied at zero heading into halftime. The Minutemen took the lead for good on a defensive touchdown with 9:00 remaining in the third quarter.
West Morris Mendham led by as many as 12 points before the Cougars cut into the final margin.
Thomas Guida played well for Chatham. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown.
CHS's lone touchdown came on a 5-yard pass from Guida to
Chris Peters in the fourth quarter.
Coming into the game WMM had allowed 28.2 points per game this year.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Mendham school, which lost to Roxbury last week, 43-0.
West Morris Mendham (1-6) goes up against Morristown in a Northwest Jersey - National game matchup next week, while Chatham (0-7) locks horns with Roxbury also in a Northwest Jersey - National game.
