Two dominant players in Zaria Moss and Anna lee Avery are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Arlington Tigers will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Houston Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Arlington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Houston is ranked 120th).
Arlington's 21-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 58-41 to Millington Central.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Micaiah Adams, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for she. Cydney Hurt was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Houston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Germantown with a sharp 68-44 win. Houston might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matches by 24 points or more this season.
Avery was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points. The contest was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amani Lipscomb, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Arlington's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Houston, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Arlington have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Houston struggles in that department as they've nailed 40% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Arlington against Houston in their previous matchup back in February as the squad secured a 72-40 win. Does Arlington have another victory up their sleeve, or will Houston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
