On Tuesday, the Merit Preparatory Academy Knights faced the Pinnacle Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Merit Preparatory Academy walked away with a 47-34 win over Pinnacle. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Merit Preparatory Academy as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Merit Preparatory Academy found their leader in underclassman Malyssa Moore, who scored 21 points. Moore continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ayla Coltharp, who scored 9 points.
When it comes to explaining why Pinnacle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Heather Kerr. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Kerr scored a full 70.6% of Pinnacle's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jostyn McLean, who scored 8 points along with 16 rebounds and 3 steals.
Merit Preparatory Academy's victory bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Pinnacle, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Merit Preparatory Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Grand County at 4:30 p.m. on December 14th. As for Pinnacle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
