The Patton Panthers will challenge the West Lincoln Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Patton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Patton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against East Burke, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Patton put the hurt on East Burke with a sharp 16-6 win on Monday. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Cavaliers on their field since April 22, 2022.
Kara Redwine and Jolann Buff did most of the damage at the plate: Redwine scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4, while Buff went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Buff has posted since back in April of 2024. Alex Maines was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Patton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, West Lincoln didn't have quite enough to beat West Caldwell on Tuesday and fell 5-4.
Gabrielle Wright put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 10.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Wright was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Kaylin Pardo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Carpenter, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one double.
West Lincoln dropped their record down to 5-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Patton, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Patton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like West Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Patton might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from West Lincoln in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Patton have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
