With a playoff game on the line, the Sabetha Bluejays rose to the challenge on Friday. They really took it to Humboldt for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-18 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Sabetha, who have now won eight games by 21 points or more so far this season.
When it comes to explaining why Humboldt lost, one person who can't be blamed is Blake Ellis. Despite the final result, he threw for 254 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
The victory was the third in a row for Sabetha, bringing their record for this year to 10-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-2 Silver Lake (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.8% over those games). As for Humboldt, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
Sabetha is on the road again on Friday and play against Nemaha Central at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Nemaha Central is on a seven-game streak of home wins, Sabetha a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Humboldt does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
