Cumberland Gap has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Thursday. They will face off against the Washburn Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Cumberland Gap was fully in charge, breezing past Hancock County 66-32 at home. Given Cumberland Gap's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Hancock County is ranked 309th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Washburn waltzed into Tuesday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Thomas Walker with points to spare, taking the game 47-32.
Washburn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Megan Beeler, who scored 11 points along with 6 steals. Beeler hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Ebany Hill was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 4 steals.
Cumberland Gap's victory bumped their season record to 3-0 while Hancock County's loss dropped theirs to 0-5.
Cumberland Gap strolled past Washburn when the teams last played last Monday by a score of 49-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cumberland Gap since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
