The Williston Red Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Newberry Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Williston is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Williston's offense. They fell just short of Fort White by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday.
Luna Asencion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Williston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayla Coleman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Coleman has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, while Newberry put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Interlachen. The Panthers put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 6-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Interlachen's batters probably weren't too happy with Madison Rodgers, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up two walks).
On the hitting side, Malana Kennard was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Tristan Layfield, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Newberry lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Newberry pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Williston, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Newberry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Williston's way against Newberry when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Williston made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
