The Chatfield Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 78-37 loss at the hands of Valor Christian. While losing is never fun, Chatfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Eagles are ranked third).
Chatfield's loss came despite strong showings from Tanner Teff and Indiana Hostetler. Teff scored 11 points, while Hostetler scored seven points.
Chatfield struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Valor Christian pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Cole Scherer was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals for Valor Christian. Scherer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Wynja, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Chatfield's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Valor Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chatfield will take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Valor Christian, they will head out on the road to take on the Rebels at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Columbine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Wednesday.
