IV Section IV recap November 5, 2013
Seton Catholic took down Rio Rico 68-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kyle Johnson threw for 253 yards and 6 touchdowns and ran for 20 yards during the win.
The Sentinels led IV Section IV in scoring this week by notching 68 points on the Hawks. Johnson ran for 20 yards in the win.
Charles McCarty was a force in the backfield as Coolidge defeated Florence.
McCarty provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bears beat the Gophers. He completed 4 passes for 65 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 238 yards.
Garrett Boyd was a key player and the best on defense this week as Seton Catholic defeated Rio Rico. The 5-foot-11 sophomore recorded 1 fumble.
He was 13-15 with 0 interceptions.
McCarty was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 238 yards as Coolidge topped Kevin Kuhm's team. Teammate Dominick Ellis added to the ground attack by rushing for 228 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Johnson of the Sentinels is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,037. He has also thrown 32 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Matt Ramirez. The Florence star has 37 catches for 705 yards.
Cayle Ferguson's team's McCarty needs only 32 yards against Fountain Hills next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. McCarty has rushed for 968 yards on 93 carries so far this year.
So far this year, Bobby Herrera has thrown for 1,899 yards with 15 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Seton Catholic takes on Combs. The Sentinels are currently in first, while the Coyotes are in third.
Combs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,777 from 9,167. The advance stemmed from a 38-27 victory over Coronado last week.
