The Effingham County Rebels waltzed into Friday's matchup with five straight wins but they left with six. They had just enough and edged Brunswick out 31-28. This was payback for Effingham County, who suffered a 30-27 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Nate Hayes was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns on only 18 passes.
Despite the defeat, Brunswick saw an underclassman step up: Grant Moore threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Moore was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarious Towns, who gained 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Effingham County pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points per game. As for Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Effingham County will be playing in front of their home fans against Lovejoy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Lovejoy is ranked 116th, while Effingham County is ranked 132nd). As for Brunswick, they will head out on the road to face off against Mundy's Mill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
