5A Pioneer recap November 5, 2013
Doherty's Zach Young rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Pioneer this season in his game against Gateway last week. Young's team beat the Olympians as he sprinted for 94 yards on the play and finished with 346 in all.
Legend lost to Douglas County 64-34 last week, the largest margin of any game. Peyton Remy was a bright spot for the Titans, as he threw for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 36 yards in the defeat.
Elijah Cherrington had a great week catching the football as Legend fell to the Huskies. He caught 10 passes for 213 yards.
He went 25-37 with 0 interceptions.
Young was a beast in the backfield as Doherty defeated Gateway.
Jostin Barron made the biggest impact on defense this week as Robert Doyle's team fell to Douglas County. He forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Young was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 346 yards on 33 carries as David Joyce's team fell to Jeff Ketron's team. Evan Powell also contributed to the rushing game with 14 yards on the ground.
Legend's Remy and Cherrington have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Remy has thrown for 2,640 yards this season, while Cherrington has 51 catches for 1,017 yards. Young from the Spartans leads the league in rushing with 2,309 yards.
In 128 carries Drue Harris has put up 939 yards this year.
Kyle Carey of the Doherty's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 74 receiving yards in this week's game against ThunderRidge to get there. So far this year, he has acheived 48 catches for 926 yards.
The Spartans led 5A Pioneer in scoring this week after putting up 59 points on Ashour Peera's team. Young caught 2 passes for 28 yards in the win.
