This season hasn't been kind to the Amundsen Vikings, who are still winless after their fifth game. Their  tough  61-35 loss to Leyden  on Monday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Amundsen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings  (they are ranked 552nd, while Leyden is ranked 180th).
 Amundsen's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Amadeus Valdez, who  scored 11 points along with 6  rebounds. Another player making a difference was  Nour Mohammad, who  scored 5 points.
 Amundsen's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Leyden, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won four of their last five games,  which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
 Amundsen will head out on the road to face off against Mather at 5:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Mather is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Leyden will take on Hinsdale South at 3:00  p.m.  on Saturday. Hinsdale South has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 432 points over their last six matchups.
