Newton is 1-9 against Pollok Central since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Newton Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Pollok Central Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Newton has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Pollok Central will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Tuesday, Newton came up short against Diboll and fell 47-37. Newton has not had much luck with Diboll recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, Pollok Central beat Pineywoods Community Academy 45-35 on Friday. Given Pollok Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Pineywoods Community Academy is ranked 1086th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pollok Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Matthews out in front who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals. Matthews has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Kaynin Poage was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Newton bumped their record down to 0-3 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pollok Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
Newton might still be hurting after the 66-46 loss they got from Pollok Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Newton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
