Taylorsville is 2-0 against Mount Olive since October of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Taylorsville Tartars will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Olive Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Taylorsville is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Mount Olive in Mississippi (Taylorsville is ranked 103rd, while Mount Olive is ranked 242nd).
Last Friday, Taylorsville got themselves on the board against Stringer, but Stringer never followed suit. They breezed by the Red Devils on the road to the tune of 46-0. Taylorsville pushed the score to 40-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Stringer had no chance of recovering from.
Taylorsville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cobey Craft, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Calvin Scott also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mount Olive's six-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They managed a 22-16 win over Leake County.
Malachi Mickel was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Mickel is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last six games he's played.
Their wins bumped Taylorsville to 3-5 and Mount Olive to 1-6.
Everything went Taylorsville's way against Mount Olive when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as Taylorsville made off with a 40-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Taylorsville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
