The Fredericktown Black Cats's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They snuck past Ste. Genevieve with a 36-30 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Fredericktown also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Fredericktown was led to victory by Keira Francis and Amelia Miller. Francis scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Miller almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ava Penuel, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Ste. Genevieve lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bri Abt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Abt has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Greminger, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Fredericktown's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Ste. Genevieve, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fredericktown will take on the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Black Cats in Missouri (the Rebels are ranked 49th, while the Black Cats are ranked 241st). As for Ste. Genevieve, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Knights on January 26th.
