Softball Recap: Stanton Wins Going Away Against Raines

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against First Coast, Stanton was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Raines Vikings as the Stanton Blue Devils made off with a 21-12 win. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.

Leah Joseph was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up nine earned (and three unearned) runs off 15 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four).

In other batting news, Zariah Harvey was a standout: she scored five runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emmalyn Gensch, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-6.

Stanton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Raines only posted an OBP of .368.

Stanton's record now sits at 3-1. As for Raines, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Stanton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-1 victory against Parker on the 11th. As for Raines, they will take on Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on March 13th. Raines has given up an average of 17 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
