Softball Game Preview: Cypress Christian Warriors vs. Kelly Catholic Bulldogs

The Cypress Christian Warriors will head out to square off against the Kelly Catholic Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kelly Catholic took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Cypress Christian, who comes in off a win.

Cypress Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over Frassati Catholic on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warriors needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

KK Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katelyn Bienko, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Audrey Petrowski, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Cypress Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Kelly Catholic lost 20-5 to The Woodlands Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Abigail Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Mickaylah Roach was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Kelly Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13-2. As for Cypress Christian, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5.
