The Matawan Regional Huskies lost against the Neptune Scarlet Fliers back in March of 2020, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Matawan Regional was outmatched by Neptune at home and fell 65-23. Matawan Regional was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-11.
Neptune's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christa Ramos led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lana Ellington was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven steals.
Matawan Regional's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Neptune, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Matawan Regional will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakewood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neptune won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Manalapan at 11:00 a.m. on January 6th. Manalapan is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
