McDonough is 10-0 against the Bulldogs since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The McDonough Warhawks will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Zion Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. McDonough has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 778 points over their last 11 contests.
McDonough can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Luella 84-54 on the road. McDonough's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Nigel Thomas, who scored 23 points along with three blocks and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Greene, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Mt. Zion pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodland. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mt. Zion in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite their loss, Mt. Zion saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaki Bell, who scored 25 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38.5% of Mt. Zion's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Devante Burgest, who scored 18 points.
McDonough has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Mt. Zion, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.
Tuesday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Keenan Gray and Bell. Gray has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 19.1 points, 1.5 steals, and 3.7 assists. For his part, Bell has averaged 18.7 points, 1.5 steals, and 3.8 rebounds.
Everything came up roses for McDonough against the Bulldogs in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 79-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for McDonough since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
