Volleyball Recap: Grayson Starts Season with Victory Against Lanier

Grayson had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lanier Longhorns 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since August 29, 2024.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Grayson got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 18-25, 15-12.

Michaela Payton paced Grayson's offense, picking up six kills. Payton got some help from Sydney Pitts and her 13 assists. Pitts was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Emily Walton and Catalyna Bou certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Walton had 11 digs and two aces, while Bou had eight digs.

Lanier is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Grayson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Mountain View on the 7th. As for Lanier, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Duluth on the 7th.
