The Western Plains Bobcats will head out on the road to challenge the Northern Valley Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Plains has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
Western Plains suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 58-38 defeat to Cheylin might stick with them for a while.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Northern Valley's strategy against Stockton on Tuesday. Northern Valley walked away with a 48-35 victory over Stockton. The victory was all the more spectacular given Northern Valley's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Stockton is ranked 119th).
Northern Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audrey Bina, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Delaney Sides, who scored 13 points.
Western Plains dropped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Northern Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-8.
Western Plains came out on top in a nail-biter against Northern Valley in their previous meeting back in January of 2021, sneaking past 33-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Western Plains since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
