For the first time this season, Atkinson County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Calhoun County Cougars will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Calhoun County will be up against a hot Atkinson County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Rebels blew past Crawford County, posting a 49-21 victory. Considering the Rebels have won five games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atkinson County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darrian Roberts, who rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per carry. Roberts really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Israel Baza, who rushed for 113 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Atkinson County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 457 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Atkinson County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Messiah Johnson and Roberts. Roberts has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last nine times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun County). They took their matchup last Friday with ease, bagging a 52-12 win over Southwest Georgia STEM Charter.
Calhoun County's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Atkinson County, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Everything came up roses for Atkinson County against Calhoun County when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-6 victory. In that contest, the Rebels amassed a halftime lead of 36-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
