Sheldon has gone a perfect 10-0 against Monterey Trail recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sheldon 2.8, Monterey Trail 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Monterey Trail will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Sheldon extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitchers stepped up to hand Elk Grove a 5-0 shutout.
Kwinci Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Brown was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Micah Kennedy, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Monterey Trail fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Franklin on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7. The Mustangs have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Aniyah Whipper was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Ewing, who went 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Sheldon's record now sits at 14-5-1. As for Monterey Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Monterey Trail's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sheldon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. It's a different story for Monterey Trail, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Sheldon's hitters?
Sheldon beat Monterey Trail 5-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
