The Ocean View Seahawks will head out on the road to face off against the University Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ocean View has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Ocean View came up short against Capistrano Valley Christian and fell 15-10. Even though they lost, the Seahawks' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Emily Mayorga was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Audree Wells made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Lexie Mayebo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Rosary Academy hit University with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Royals by a score of 7-6. The Trojans have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Carson Cruz - Babson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Sophia Weinberg - Harvard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gidget Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Ocean View's record is now 6-10. As for University, their record now sits at 7-4.
Ocean View might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from University in their previous matchup on March 5th. Can the Seahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
