Zane Trace hasn't had much luck against Westfall recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pioneers will welcome the Mustangs at 5:15 p.m.
Zane Trace managed to slip by Lynchburg-Clay the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pioneers lost 7-1 to the Mustangs on Saturday. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westfall). Everything went their way against Southeastern on Thursday as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Adrina Hicks made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Snyder, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Logan McNeal was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Westfall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Westfall's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Zane Trace, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Zane Trace has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Westfall struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Zane Trace skirted past Westfall 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
