The Delone Catholic Squires are taking a road trip to challenge the Littlestown Thunderbolts at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Delone Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand York Catholic a 15-0 shutout.
Delone Catholic got a massive performance out of Caylee Zortman, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Zortman has posted since back in March. Ella Staub was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Littlestown came tearing into Wednesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 10-6.
Alexis Stonesifer made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Loveless, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Gorsuch, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Littlestown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.
Littlestown pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Delone Catholic, their record now sits at 6-10.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Delone Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Littlestown struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delone Catholic might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Littlestown in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Squires avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
