The Starmount Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cherokee Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Starmount has four straight wins, Cherokee has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Starmount stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Elkin for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-0 win at home. Given Starmount's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Elkin is ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kinston Crater continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Sam Shore made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Cherokee suffered a tough 35-12 loss at the hands of Murphy on Friday.
Starmount's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 South Stokes and 3-7 Elkin (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34% over those games). As for Cherokee, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Starmount came up short against Cherokee in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 28-21. Can Starmount avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
