It was a good run, but the Zapata Hawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Progreso 51-45. Zapata was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Progreso apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November.
It was another big night for Sophia Pecina, who dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists for Progreso. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Pecina has scored at least 25% of Progreso's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Galvan, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Zapata's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Progreso, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Zapata will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Raymondville at 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Progreso won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Tournament Opponent at 10:00 a.m. on December 8th.
