Baseball Recap: Cliffside Park's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Cliffside Park came into Saturday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past the Wood-Ridge Blue Devils 8-1 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Breidy Marine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Cliffside Park is 2-1 when Marine allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Nicolas Ortiz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Freytas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Cliffside Park's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Wood-Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cliffside Park will host Fort Lee at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bridgemen have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Wood-Ridge, they will be playing at home against Hasbrouck Heights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Aviators will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
