Softball Recap: Cumberland Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sullivan, Cumberland was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos 8-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Mia Holsapple spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Ashton Tolen was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Miller, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Cumberland's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-15. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Cumberland is set to face off against their familiar foe Okaw Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Cerro Gordo/Bement will take on rival Heritage at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
