Even though the Marcellus Mustangs scored an imposing 56 points on Saturday, the West Genesee Wildcats still came out on top. West Genesee walked away with a 68-56 victory over Marcellus. The win was all the more spectacular given West Genesee's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Marcellus is ranked 19th).
Marcellus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mitch Donegan, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Dom Gosh-Sandy, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
West Genesee now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Marcellus, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-1.
West Genesee will head out on the road to face off against Liverpool at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Marcellus and Jordan-Elbridge will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
