The St. John-Vianney Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Ewing Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. John-Vianney posted their biggest win since December 21, 2023 on Monday. They blew past Long Branch 55-35. Given St. John-Vianney's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Long Branch is ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Ewing took their matchup on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 59-32 win over Hightstown. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Ewing has posted against Hightstown since February 14, 2019.
Te'Yala Delfosse and Rhian Stokes were among the main playmakers for Ewing as the former dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten steals. Stokes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joi Johnson, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
St. John-Vianney pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points per game. As for Ewing, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
St. John-Vianney was able to grind out a solid victory over Ewing when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 58-45. Does St. John-Vianney have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ewing turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
