Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tyner Academy). They put the hurt on the Austin-East Roadrunners with a sharp 20-2 victory on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Ryleigh Chubb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Tyner Academy is 2-1 when Chubb posts three or more RBI, but 1-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, Tyner Academy got a massive performance out of Damani Stallion, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Stallion a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton McKenley, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Tyner Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tyner Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-15. As for Austin-East, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the defeat, which was their 24th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tyner Academy will head out to square off against Brainerd at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Austin-East, they will venture away from home to take on Alcoa at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
